The Southern Missouri Consumer Fraud Task Force would like to alert the public of a reoccurring scam. Individuals are making calls and offering to lower credit card interest rates. If you agree, they charge your credit card for at least several hundreds of dollars, and maybe more. The two things that we’ve seen are: 1) a call with you to the customer service line on the back of the credit card, requesting the bank to lower the interest rate. If the bank says no, that's the end. In a few cases we’ve seen them apply for new credit cards with short term no interest rates you can shift the balances to, but interest rates are soon applied and increase. If you receive these calls, please do not respond. Hang up and contact your credit card company to see if they are conducting these calls.
