Southern Missouri Consumer Fraud Task Force Celebrates National Consumer Protection Week

Thousands of consumers file complaints each year due to unfair and deceptive trade practices. The newly formed Consumer Fraud Task Force is celebrating the National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) scheduled March 3 – 9, 2013. The Task Force kicked off the week with a press conference and was presented a proclamation by Springfield Mayor Bob Stephens.
The Task Force wants to bring awareness to the community regarding deceptive practices and provide tips and information to allow consumers to make informed decisions. The Consumer Fraud Task Force members include: Legal Services of Southern Missouri, the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Credit Counseling of Springfield, Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Greene County Prosecutor’s Office, Missouri Attorney General, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, FBI, Springfield Police Department, Branson Police Department and the Federal Trade Commission.
